For my family, this time of year is far from pleasant, with many unhappy anniversaries of death and loss that plague us all, though my sister does an admirable effort to keep spirits up, and the family together. This is my first sober Christmas in 19 years, and I had such an epic revelation about it, on Christmas day, when I was dragged out of my reclusive, hermit-like December hidey-hole, and made to join a huge family lunch with m ex-sis-in-law, and her new family. It suddenly hit me square between the eyes, that beyond the crass commercialism and the fakeness that Christmas has become, the need and drive to share a day in the company of special friends and family is something that I have been missing the point of (through my own selfish addiction) all along. It was important. It was important to note. It was important to share, and so I got on the phone with a mate, who himself is facing a very difficult time, and was at work on Christmas day, and I said to him "Today is a day all about sharing, so you phone your family, and you speak and share the love, and let them know they are loved and you feel their love, and you take that healing for yourself" - of course, these words were aimed more at me, than at him, and they are echoed so strongly here, in your posting, Bruce. This is a time of healing, and Jesus is come for those who are needy...He is here for people like me, and finally, I get that...
Thanks for an EPIC series. It was short, powerful spiritual journey, and I am so glad I took it.
